Date Countdown

Pick any future date and time to see exactly how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds remain — updating live.

A live date countdown: choose a target date and time and watch the remaining days, hours, minutes, and seconds tick down in real time. If the moment has already passed, it shows how long ago it was instead. Great for launches, trips, deadlines, and holidays.

Pick a future date and time — the countdown updates every second.

How to use this calculator

  1. Step 1: Pick your target date and time with the picker.
  2. Step 2: The countdown starts instantly and updates every second.
  3. Step 3: Read days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining.
  4. Step 4: After the moment passes, the same display shows elapsed time.

The formula

remaining = target − now, split into days / hours / minutes / seconds

Worked example

From June 1, 2026 at noon to June 4 at 6:30 PM there are 3 days, 6 hours, and 30 minutes remaining — 282,600 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the countdown work?

It subtracts the current time from your target and breaks the difference into days, hours, minutes, and seconds, refreshing every second. The math uses your device's local clock and timezone, so a target of midnight means midnight where you are.

What happens when the target date passes?

The countdown flips to elapsed mode and shows how long ago the moment was, using the same days/hours/minutes/seconds breakdown. Nothing resets or errors — it's equally useful for 'how long until' and 'how long since'.

Is it accurate across time zones and daylight saving?

The countdown runs in your browser's local timezone, so daylight-saving transitions are handled by your device clock automatically. If you're counting down to an event in another timezone, convert the target to your local time first — otherwise the result will be off by the timezone difference.

Can I count down to something years away?

Yes. The day counter has no upper limit, so multi-year countdowns (retirement, a degree, a wedding) work fine — you'll just see a large day count ticking down. For a calendar-style view of long spans, the date duration calculator breaks it into years and months.
